Dr. Watts was born in Eau Claire, WI but raised primarily in Kalamazoo, MI. She received a B.S. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and a D.O. from A.T. Still University – Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2018, she became a proud graduate of the UICOMP Family Medicine Residency right here in Peoria! After completing residency, Kari Beth accepted a full-time faculty position with the residency. This position has allowed her to continue practicing the full scope of her training including obstetrics, inpatient medicine, and traditional ambulatory care–all while developing herself as an educator and enjoying fellowship with residents and colleagues. She is married to Dr. Seth Van Heukelom, who is also a UICOMP graduate and currently practices family medicine at UnityPoint Health – Pekin. They have two children and live in Washington, IL. Kari Beth is an avid reader, loves cooking and being outdoors, and cheers for the Green Bay Packers.
I love working here because there is a culture of lifelong learning. Every day, our smart and curious residents teach me at least as much as I teach them.
