Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Costerisan was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and then spent most of his growing up years in Illinois. That is, other than several years spent on the Pacific island of Yap. He earned a degree in philosophy from Wheaton College, followed by a medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. In the middle of medical school, he took time to earn a masters degree in bioethics from Trinity international University in Chicago. He learned and practiced full spectrum family medicine during residency in Ventura, California. He then completed a fellowship in maternal child health with PCC Community Wellness Centers in Chicago. He wanted to stay in the academic/teaching environment, so he joined the faculty in Peoria after finishing fellowship in 2013. He remains interested in maternal child health, biomedical ethics, point of care ultrasound, and dermatology, among the rest of the breadth of family medicine.
Dr. Costerisan’s wife, Andrea, works as an oncology nurse at Illinois Cancer Care in Peoria. They have three delightful and crazy children – Sam is seven, Ben is four, and Emmalyn is two. They all enjoy being outside, hiking, riding bikes, reading good stories, and (eventually) camping.
