Dr. Amber M. D’Souza, a specialist in children’s cancer, has been named to the Jim and Katie Owens – OSF Professorship in Pediatric Oncology.

A hematologist/oncologist at the Trudy and Jim Maloof St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, Dr. D’Souza is an assistant professor of pediatrics with the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria.

She came to Peoria after completing her fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed her pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Retired Caterpillar Chairman, Jim Owens and his wife, Katie, donated $1 million to establish the endowed position. The program funds further pediatric cancer research to develop landmark advances in treatment for children who are battling the disease. The professorship is a collaborative effort between the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Peoria, the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate and OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois. The generosity of the Owens ensures the Peoria area remains at the forefront of cutting-edge treatments.

Among her research and scholarly work, Dr. D’Souza has eight publications, including six as first author, and 15 presentations and posters. Her professional areas of focus include solid tumors, clinical trial and new drug development, and global health. Through the professorship, Dr. D’Souza will conduct international research to increase the understanding of Hodgkin’s
Lymphoma.
