Visiting Student Rotation (Away Rotation) Scholarship for UICOMP Students
Criteria and Process
Criteria
- Rising M4 UICOMP student applying into residency the coming fall
- Away rotation must be with an institution with whom UI COM has an affiliation agreement and that the UICOMP registrar has approved for credit
- Demonstrated financial need as verified by the Office of Financial Aid
- Priority given to students whose intended specialty requires an away rotation, e.g. emergency medicine, or students for whom multiple away rotations are a significant factor in achieving competitiveness – currently defined as dermatology and surgical subspecialties
- Students are eligible for funding for one rotation per academic year
- Maximum funding is $750, although typical funding will be around $500, depending on number of applications
- Funding can cover travel and/or accommodations
Process
- Applications are to be submitted at least six weeks prior to the start of the rotation. Students who are notified of acceptance to a program with less than six weeks’ notice can request an exception by submitting the dated acceptance letter.
- A committee will review applications on or near the 1st of each month
- Students will be notified of decisions via their UIC email
- Work with the Office of Student Affairs to determine eligible expenses
- Funds are provided only through reimbursement through the student’s UIC account
- Receipts must be submitted to Student Affairs within 30 days of the end of the rotation
