Student Clerkship

Fourth year medical students are encouraged to rotate with the Department of Neurosurgery.  We are flexible with scheduling and will attempt to accommodate anyone interested in gaining extra insight into the program.  Duties will include daily morning and evening rounding with primary responsibilities in the operating room.  Call will be arranged individually.  Additionally, medical students will get hands-on experience in bedside procedures such as ventriculostomy, ICP and oxygen probes, lumbar drains and taps, central line and arterial line placement.  The rotating student will also participate in daily conferences.  Opportunities also exist for more informal interaction at dinner meetings and journal clubs held at the home of faculty or at the local wine bar.  Room and board will be provided and arranged prior to arrival.
