Breast Imaging Fellowship
We are currently accepting applications for the 2019-2020 position. The one-year fellowship accepts one fellow per year.
The Department of Radiology offers a one-year fellowship in Breast Imaging through the University of Illinois College of Medicine, the Susan G. Komen Breast Center and OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center.
Approximately 22,000 screening cases are evaluated and 9,500 diagnostic studies are performed each year at the Susan G. Komen Breast Center. In addition, over 1,600 interventional procedures as well as 5,500 breast ultrasound examinations, over 350 breast MRI exams and over 100 MR-guided core biopsies are performed each year.
The fellowship is through the University of Illinois College of Medicine, the Susan G. Komen Breast Center and OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center, a 616 bed Level I Trauma Center. It is staffed by four Breast Imaging Radiologists and a dedicated group of technologists and clerical staff. The facilities include the Susan G. Komen Breast Center and three outlying screening sites which together have seven full-field digital Hologic Dimensions 3D Mammography Units. R2 ImageChecker CAD is used for all screening and diagnostic exams.
In addition, the Susan G. Komen Breast Center is equipped with three dedicated Philips iU22 ultrasound units, a Hologic LoRad MultiCare Platinum prone stereotactic unit with a Suros Eviva biopsy system, a Hologic Affirm upright stereotactic biopsy unit, a GE Signa HDx 1.5 T MRI system with Sentinelle Vanguard Breast MR Auxiliary Table and Suros Eviva breast biopsy system, two KUBTEC specimen imagers, a Somo.V Automated Breast Ultrasound System, and a Hologic Discovery SL bone densitometry unit.
The Breast Center has earned the ACR Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence (BICOE) accreditation. The Center is accredited by the National Accreditation Program of Breast Centers (NAPBC). We are one of two programs accredited in Illinois and one of the first four programs in the country to receive full accreditation.
