We provide safe, effective, evidence-based patient care through outstanding medical education and training, and by contributing to medical knowledge through research and scholarly activities.

Emergency Medicine is the specialty focusing on the evaluation, treatment and stabilization of life, limb and organ threatening conditions. Emergency Physicians treat all patients regardless of age, gender, race, religion or ethnic group. In addition they frequently care for patients with less urgent conditions when the patient might not have access to a primary care provider or other healthcare services.

Emergency Medicine is the “safety net” of the healthcare systems being available to everyone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.

Portrait of Mar Squillante

“A hidden treasure.” That’s how people who are not familiar with our medical community and department frequently describe us once they discover us. Being half-way between Chicago and St. Louis we understand the “hidden” part of that perception. I encourage you to explore our website and discover what we feel are the “treasures” of our department, specifically our educational mission to train students and residents to provide excellent emergency health care for our patients, our experienced and enthusiastic faculty, and our state-of-the-art clinical facilities and educational resources.

I believe that once you have looked at what our medical community and department have to offer, you too will feel like you’ve found something special.

Marc Squillante, DO  |  Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine
