College of Medicine Urban Health Program Mission

The mission of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Urban Health Program (COM-UHP) is to recruit, retain, and graduate underrepresented racial/ethnic minority students, specifically African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans, for the health professions. COM-UHP seeks to expand educational and research opportunities for these populations, at all academic levels (including pre-college students), in order to develop underrepresented racial/ethnic minority health care professionals, faculty and researchers, with the goals of eliminating health disparities and advancing health equity.

Urban Health Program Resources

The Urban Health Program Office on the Peoria campus offers a variety of programs and services for students who are underrepresented in medicine (URiM) specifically African-Americans, Native Americans, Latinos/as, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds that: attract talent, provide access to medical education, support even progression and academic excellence, as well as develop leaders who will advance health equity.
