The Department of Neurology is proud to have one of the top neuro-ophthalmology centers in the country, and the largest in Central Illinois. All medical students and resident pass through the neuro-ophthalmology unit during their education as young doctors. The neuro-ophthlamology department is in need of a piece of equipment called an electro-retinogram (ERG). ERG does not exist in Illinois outside of Chicago, and is essential in the diagnosis of certain retinal disorders. Students rounding in either ophthalmology or neurology would not otherwise be introduced to this technology if trained in Peoria.
